A SHEEP was rescued after spending two days in a lake when her flock was attacked by dogs.

The sheep had gone missing after two dogs attacked the flock causing two sheep to die and others to be injured.

After 48 hours the sheep was found up to her stomach in Hedgecourt Lake, Mill Lane, Felbridge, near East Grinstead.

The RSPCA was called and inspectors donned drysuits to wade in and get her.

RSPCA inspector Andrew Kirby said: “Her legs had got a bit tangled in something at the bottom of the lake, but once I had waded in I could get her loose.

“She was properly soggy but had a lucky escape. Sadly, it wasn’t such a happy ending for some of the others in her flock.

“This incident is a reminder to owners to keep their dogs on a lead around farm animals and wildlife at all times to ensure tragedies are prevented.

“You may think your dog is well behaved and would never chase or attack sheep, but owners can often be taken by surprise when they are close by.”
