Plans have been unveiled for a £3.75 million transformation of an iconic hotel.

The proposals for the Hilton Brighton Metropole in King’s Road have been unveiled as the hotel prepares to celebrate its 125th anniversary this spring.

Work includes refurbishing guest rooms and meeting rooms and a creating a brand new restaurant and spa.

A total of 185 out of 340 guest rooms will be renovated and redesigned to provide modern conveniences such as improved lighting within their Victorian surroundings.

En-suite rooms and communal guest areas will also be refurbished with an arts and crafts-movement related theme, paying homage to renowned artist and designer William Morris.

Hotel general manager Sascha Koehler said: "We are thrilled not only to be unveiling our renovation plans for the guest rooms but also to be sharing our plans to open The Salt Room restaurant later this month.

“The Salt Room will be a relaxed, informal, urban dining retreat with covered terrace seating and ocean views.

“The contemporary dining experience is the perfect complement to its sister restaurant, The Coal Shed, and it will showcase the best of British food.

"Our spa is also undergoing a radical transformation and will be rebranded as 'Schmoo by the Sea', with an opening planned for early February, just in time for Valentine's Day indulgence."

“Schmoo by the Sea will have a relaxed sociable feel where guests can enjoy a bespoke range of treatments.”

The spa will include six treatment rooms, a manicure and pedicure zone, a relaxation zone and a welcoming reception and shop area.

Work has already recently been carried out to renovate several banqueting and meeting rooms to improve facilities for business events, meetings and weddings.

The hotel will remain open to guests throughout the renovation work, which begins next month.
