A teenage girl was arrested after taking a knife into school.

The 14-year-old Hailsham Community College pupil was arrested for possession of a knife and affray at about midday on Thursday.

A spokeswoman from Sussex Police said: “A member of staff suffered a cut to his finger after detaining the girl, who is a pupil at the school.

“She also suffered a cut to her hand and was taken to hospital for treatment.

“The girl was questioned before being released on bail until March 4. However, she has been detained for her own safety and mental health assessment.

“No one else was hurt.”
