Police have offered a reward to catch the gunmen behind a Brighton shooting.

A 39-year-old man living in a flat in Elmore Road, Brighton, suffered shotgun wounds in a case of mistaken identity last Tuesday.

Three men who went to his address fired a single shot through the door which hit him in the hand and stomach.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Rymarz, of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, who is leading the investigation, said: "This was a targeted attack on an individual who was not at the property. An innocent man was instead subjected to a frightening unprovoked attack at his home. Officers are supporting the victim and also the man who it is thought to be the intended target.

"We have a team of detectives working on this and are following a number of lines of enquiry. But we are keen to hear from anyone who may have information about this incident or any suspicious vehicles, people or activity in the Elmore Road area late on Tuesday 27 January.

"We are offering a reward of £5,000 for information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the those responsible."

Brighton Superintendent Jayne Dando said: "We have been doing all we can to reassure the community in the area by speaking to residents about their concerns, holding a community meeting and working with our partners, who own and manage the housing where the incident happened."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Kenton, or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
