In answer to the letter (January 30) suggesting there should be a combined coat of arms and motto for the City of Brighton and Hove, there already is one.
It was created when the two towns became a unitary authority.
The coat of arms shows the two dolphins (from Brighton), the sailing ship (from Hove) and the martlet birds of Sussex.
The motto in Latin is Inter undas et colles floremus, which roughly translates as ‘between the Downs and the sea we flourish’, which I think is inspiring.
