A PENSIONER’S car crashed through a hedge next to a country road and overturned in a field.

The man, a 76-year-old from St Leonards, was driving along the B2096 Battle to Netherfield road at 5.30pm yesterday when the accident happened.

Police and ambulance crews turned up outside Foxhole Farm where the blue Vauxhall Astra estate car had left the road.

A police spokesman said the car rolled several times and was “pretty badly damaged”.

Coincidentally, a retained fire crew from Mayfield, which had been returning from a training exercise in Hastings, passed the incident and stopped to help.

The B2096 was closed for some 30 minutes while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Conquest Hospital in St Leonards, where he was treated but not detained.

No other vehicles were involved and no one else was hurt.
