TWO next-door neighbours both had knee operations at the same hospital, at the same time, on the same day.

Margaret Thomas and Alan Eaton from Heathfield, had their surgery at the Horder Centre in Crowborough and were in the recovery room together.

The only difference was they had two different surgeons. Mrs Thomas, 66, who works part-time as a tutor, had already had her right knee replaced at the centre and had to stop walking because of the pain in her other knee.

She opted for further surgery. She said: “It was a real coincidence when I found out Alan was going to be in at the same time.”

Retired Mr Eaton, 67, decided to have his operation after years of knee problems caused by playing and refereeing football.

Once recovered from the operation, he will have surgery on his right knee.
