A TEENAGER suffered a fractured skull when he was attacked from behind while on a night out to celebrate his 18th birthday.

Jake Higgs was assaulted after leaving the Shooshh nightclub on Brighton seafront in the early hours of the morning.

He was walking with a friend up the ramp leading to King’s Road, opposite the Thistle Brighton Hotel, when attackers knocked him to the ground.

He suffered a fractured skull, a burst ear drum and broken bones in his inner ear.

The 18-year-old, from Burgess Hill, said: “I got hit from behind and I do not have a lot of recollection of what happened.

“It is going to be pretty hard to find out who did it.

“I was just walking along and I remember laughing and then that is it.”

Mr Higgs was attacked at 3am on Saturday and was rushed to Hurstwood Park neurological unit in Haywards Heath.

He arrived home from hospital on Sunday but doctors have advised him not to go out for three months.

Mr Higgs added: “I was 18 a couple of days before and we were just going out for a few drinks to celebrate.

“My parents were coming to pick me up and I was walking to the car when I was attacked.”

However, despite the shocking attack he said he was “not scared” to go for a night out in Brighton again.

Detective Constable James Botting said: “We urgently need to speak to anyone who saw what happened to him.

“The area around King’s Road and King’s Road Arches would have been very busy at the time so someone must have seen the attack.

“Please contact us with any information you have.

“It could be vital to our investigation.”
