THERE is no doubt Paula and Rebecca Woolven are heroes.
Thanks to their efforts and quick thinking, a suicidal man is alive today and getting the help and support he needs.
It would have been all too easy for them to just drive on past when they spotted the man looking as if he was getting ready to jump off the Newhaven swing bridge.
But they stopped and did everything they could to help him, including grabbing him when he lost his grip on the railings and almost plunged into the river below.
They are typically modest, saying they just happened to be in the right place at the right time, but not everyone would have stopped.
Their quick-thinking and efforts, along with those of the police officers and other members of the public who came to help, should be acknowledged and praised.
Hopefully the man involved will go on to make a full recovery and he and the rest of his family can continue to be forever grateful that the Woolvens stepped up and did something to help instead of looking the other way.
