A CAR ploughed through the hedge of a sheltered housing block today.

The red Honda Civic, driven by a woman thought to be in her 40s, crashed through the overgrowth and into the front garden of Jasmine Court in Carden Avenue, Brighton, at noon.

It was driving out of Patchdean, a house and road network opposite Jasmine Court, when it hit another car, a black Citroen C3, at a junction leading on to Winfield Avenue.

The driver of the black Citroen, a woman thought to be aged in her 60s, said: “It felt quite dramatic.

“I was just driving, in the middle of taking the dog out, and the poor lady came straight down the hill and hit me.

“I’m a bit shaken – it’s sinking in now.”

The force of the impact on the back of the Citroen, which was about to enter Winfield Avenue, spun it 180 degrees in the road so it faced Carden Avenue.

Emergency services were called at noon after initial reports suggested the Honda was embedded in the wall of the building.

Two fire engines were also dispatched but not needed.
