SIDEKICKS Starsky and Hutch are on the lookout for a new home.

The two dogs became best friends while being cared for at the Dogs Trust in Shoreham.

Starsky, also known as Sasha, is a one-year-old husky and Hutch is a two-year-old malamute.

Both dogs are typical of many of the “wolf-lookalike” breeds currently looking for homes across the charity’s 20 rehoming centres across the country.

Breeds such as malamutes and huskies have increased in popularity following TV shows and books such as Game of Thrones and the Twilight saga.

Both breeds are strong and need very specific homes but many new owners are simply unprepared and ill-equipped to cope with their needs and the pets end up in rehoming centres.

Dogs Trust training and behavioural adviser Lynn Barber said: “These dogs are gorgeous creatures and can make wonderful companions, but they need owners who know the breed and are willing to commit to them.

“They are all powerful, large dogs who will need regular exercise, socialisation and habituation and, sadly, we are seeing many of these dogs being abandoned when they become too much for their owners and rescue centres have to pick up the pieces.”
