HE may be painful to touch and spend most of the day in bed, but this porcupine deserves love just as much as anyone else.

Matchmakers at his home, Drusillas Park, are trying to find Robbie a new partner ahead of Valentine’s Day.

He has been going solo since his long-term companion Trish died one month ago following a short illness.

Robbie spends most of the day dozing, mirroring his wild brethren in their native sub-Saharan Africa who spend the day in underground burrows to escape predators and the blistering sun.

Zoo manager Sue Woodgate said: “Robbie is in grave danger of turning his indoor den into a bit of a man cave.

“We need to find him a female companion as soon as possible before he becomes completely undateable.”

She added the zoo had found a possible match at another UK zoo and might be able to introduce the pair over the next few weeks.
