A WOMAN put in a Supreme television performance as a Motown icon.

Now there Ain’t No Mountain High Enough as she eyes up prospective concert bookings.

Claude Lovett became Diana Ross on pop tribute show Stars in Their Eyes.

The 44-year-old, from Laughton, near Lewes, said: “It was a fantastic experience. I think I did a reasonable job of it and the reactions I have had online are great.”

The singer did see one online comment comparing her outfit to a lobster’s – but she said she had a sense of humour about it all. Mrs Lovett performed Chain Reaction by the famed singer on Saturday.

She hopes the TV appearance will set off a chain reaction of her own with band Soul Collective.

She said: “If people want to hear me singing I would be delighted to do it. It’s never too late.

“There are a lot of people out there earning a good living while not being incredibly famous.

“It’s a sad indictment that you get paid more for being a singer pretending to be someone else than you do for singing your own stuff But then people like to hear what they know so I totally get it.

“When you see people dancing and enjoying themselves, that’s the reward.”

Part of 5,000 initial entries to the TV show, she live-auditioned with 180 people before only 25 singers were selected.

She said: “There has to be a certain facial resemblance.

“One girl went along and wanted to be Adele but she was rejected because she was so thin.

“It’s honest – it’s not about building people up and then beating them down like some programmes.”

Mrs Lovett’s mother, who passed away two years ago, introduced her to Diana Ross as a child.

She said: “I really admire Diana Ross. She didn’t have the best voice in The Supremes but she was the most commercial, and she can still turn it on now.

“Mum was at the front of my mind while I was singing.

“It was a real privilege to be able to fulfil a dream.”
