PLANS to save a doctor’s surgery from closure have fallen through.

With just over a week before Eaton Place Surgery is due to close its doors, NHS England have said ideas for a replacement branch practice on the Kemptown site are now “unviable.”

Last month the health body agreed Brighton Health and Wellbeing Centre could look at extending its service so thousands of patients could continue to have a doctor in the area - but made no guarantees the plan was set in stone.

Around 5,000 patients attended the existing surgery. At present around 3,000 are still yet to re-register at another practice. Some say they have been turned away because the books are too full, but NHS England said there are plenty of other options nearby for patients.

The Eaton Place practice will close as planned on February 28 when the partners retire.
