A BOXING club is training up beginners for a charity contest.

Ultra White Collar Boxing (UWCB) offered training programmes to prepare people for a boxing match of three rounds lasting two minutes each.

The training sessions have been held at Stables Gym at Brighton Racecourse in Freshfield Road.

The company is urging people to get into shape in and help them raise more than £1 million for the charity.

Argus media sales executive Jordan Taylor, 30, from Brighton, decided to get involved and put his skills to the test as he worked through the 16 intensive sessions – taught by ex-professionals.

Mr Taylor said: “I was really keen on trying out boxing. I was eager to get fit in the New Year and I wanted to get involved to help such a good cause. Everyone is a beginner at the group, which is good. It is a great opportunity to raise money while I can learn, work hard and enjoy myself.”

Boxing event organiser David Smith has put together events across the country and is behind the UWCB campaign.

He said: “The company raised more than £500,000 over the last year, which is fantastic. Our hope is to raise a million pounds in 2015. Any help is appreciated.”

The event takes place on Sunday, March 22, at The Grand hotel, Brighton. A raffle and auction will also take place to raise extra funds.

The ticket price - which cost £20 each - includes full entry to the event and the after party. There are VIP tables for up to ten people with waitress service, a two course meal and ringside seats also available. All proceeds will be donated to the charity.
