A FUNERAL director has appointed an acclaimed artist to create a more welcoming headquarters.

Cooper and Son, in High Street, Lewes, has teamed up with Don Faulkner, the new artist in residence.

The branch began showcasing artists through eye-catching displays in 2012 and Mr Faulkner is the latest to display his works.

He is renowned for his fine artwork regularly displayed around Sussex.

Grace Gasson, funeral director at Cooper & Son said: “We are delighted to showcase Don’s fantastic artwork.

“His energetic and contemporary style is enticing for the viewer and we think that visitors will love seeing how beautifully he has captured local landscapes, such as the Sussex downs and scenes in Ringmer and Newhaven.

“We are only too aware of the sensitivities that exist around the funeral profession and the topic of death and we are extremely considerate of this.

“We believe in creating a comfortable, warm and comforting environment across all of our premises and hope that by exhibiting Don’s artwork, it will not only provide a point of interest for the local community, but encourage others to pop in.”

The artist formerly lectured in art education at Brighton University. His noteworthy portraits include the late English potter, Ursula Mommens, who lived in Sussex, and the late TV astronomer, Sir Patrick Moore.
