BRIGHTON's Royal Blood picked up two gongs at the NME Awards and have been branded one of the most exciting bands in the UK.

The dynamic rock duo scooped the Best New Band and Best Live Band awards at the ceremony held at the O2 Brixton in London.

The two-piece also performed at the event proving their credentials for their on-stage prowess.

Their self-titled album became the fastest-selling rock debut for three years and they presented Jimmy Page, the Led Zeppelin guitarist and a fan of the duo, with a special Rock‘n’Roll Soul Award.

Kasabian were the big winners on the night with three awards including Best Band and Best Album.

NME editor Mike Williams said: "It's been an astounding year of comebacks and triumphs for Kasabian and Jamie T and their awards prove it.

"The fans have spoken and, along with newcomers Royal Blood, they have been undoubtedly anointed as the biggest acts in the country right now.

"Most excitingly, none of the trio look set on slowing down any time soon."
