A MAN has died after collapsing in the street.

The man in his early 60s collapsed shortly before 1.45pm in Queen's Road, Brighton, outside the Ibis Hotel.

Two ambulance vans and several ambulance cars were at the scene.

An eyewitness told The Argus that paramedics spent 30 minutes trying to resuscitate him.

It is thought the man suffered a cardiac arrest.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: "We were informed by the ambulance service that a man in his early 60s had collapsed while along the pavement in Queen's Road, Brighton, shortly before 1.45pm.

"Paramedics attended to him but he was sadly pronounced dead on his arrival at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.

"The death is not being treated as suspicious and next of kin are being informed."

Two bus control staff from the Brighton Station forecourt bus stop helped control traffic passing the scene.
