A TRANSPORT group has said possible cuts to bus routes will only affect some services.

The Brighton Area Buswatch said only limited services were at risk after Brighton and Hove Buses announced the 21, 21A, 38A and 84 could be withdrawn.

The cuts could be introduced if Brighton and Hove City Council does not secure a 5.9% council tax hike in a meeting on Thursday.

But the Buswatch group said only evening services to Goldstone Valley, Queens Park and Manor Hill on the 21 route, and Sunday services on the 21A, evening and Sunday services on the 38A to Coombe Road and Meadowview, and the peak hour service from Whitehawk and Woodingdean to the universities will be affected.

A spokesman said: “If implemented in full they would leave Meadowview and Goldstone Valley without evening bus services and there would be no service at all between Woodingdean and Falmer.

"Manor Hill could lose its winter Sunday evening service.

“Brighton Area Buswatch is working with the council and bus companies to see if there are ways to retain these vital services if funding is withdrawn or reduced.

“We urge bus users affected in all the areas to seek the support of local councillors to object to these cuts.”

The group welcomed improvements on other routes which will see more regular buses on the number 50 route from Hollingdean, the 21A to Brighton Marina and the 13X service from Brighton to Beachy Head and Eastbourne.
