HOSPITAL consultants and staff have thrown their support behind a charity campaign.

The team from the Brighton Nuffield Hospital in Woodingdean helped officially launch the Brighton Big Balls event in aid of Orchid, a charity raising awareness and help for male cancers.

The annual event is now in its third year and sees entrants stumble over the beaches and groynes of Hove while carrying two large gym balls under their arms.

Businesses also donate to the charity in return for putting their own obstacles along the route.

Infamous obstacles in previous years have included comedy Ninjas with boxing gloves on long poles, being covered in buckets of wallpaper paste and cornflakes.

Event organiser David Samuel said: “You don’t have to be particularly fit to take part – laughing seems to be more the order of the day.”

The event, which takes place on May 10, is aimed at men but women are also invited to take part to show support.

Registration costs £25 and entrants are then asked to raise sponsorship via the charity JustGiving page.
