A PHOTOGRAPHY exhibition is looking for a home in Brighton as it celebrates the very best of British.

The organisers of the British Life Photography Awards (BLPA) are appealing for anyone in the city who might be interested in hosting their photography road show to come forward.

The work of both amateur and professional photographers from across the country is celebrated in ten categories such as street life, rural life and portraitures, with around 100 highly commended images featuring in the travelling exhibition.

The BLPA show will be at the Mall Galleries in London from March 2 to March 7 before going on the road.

Founder Maggie Gowan said they are keen for the display to find a Brighton home.

A number of shots from Brighton and Sussex feature in the exhibition and Brits on Holiday category award-winner Heather Buckley, 51, from Lewes, pegged the city as one of the world’s “best places” for photography, as reported in The Argus yesterday.

Ella Turville, 17, claimed the title of Young British Life Photographer with a photograph of her brother titled Lord of the Flies on Brighton beach.

She said: “The photograph came about when he found this stone and came running over to show me.

“I didn’t have my camera in my hand at that moment, but asked him to repeat his unusual pose so I could take this shot using flash.”

The award-winning photographers scooped portions from a £10,000 prize fund and each category winner walked away with a brand new Sony digital camera.

The title of British Life Photographer of the year went to David Yeo for his shot Vroom with a View taken in Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. He said: “This quintessentially British Caravan reflects all that is good about the British countryside.

“Its wallpapered interior makes it amazingly quirky, while the girl looks out of the window.

“The caravan shelters under a blossoming horse chestnut tree, which adds to the many shades of green around it.”

Judge Caroline Metcalfe said: “There is a wealth of photographic material sitting right here at home, and the various categories in the British Life Photography Awards are testament to that.

“The photographs are broad and diverse, and reveal layers of life that speak louder than any words about our country.”
