A man wearing a balaclava stole money from a shop and made off on an old children's bike.

The armed robbery took place at McColls convenience store in Manor Parade, Worthing, yesterday at about 4.30pm.

A man had entered the shop, wearing all black with his face covered by a balaclava, threatened the shop worker with a knife and demanded she hand over money.

He took money from a till and left, cycling towards Salvington Road and into Pond Lane.

Detective Sergeant Simon Smith said: "Thankfully the shop worker wasn't hurt but extremely shaken by what happened.

"A witness saw the man leaving the shop and was able to descibe him as white, between 35 and 40, around 5ft 8in with thick dark hair cut into a bowl cut.

"He was wearing a black sweatshirt and joggers."
