Ceri Dupree’s fabulous female impersonations of show business legends and his rapid fire jokes provided excellent entertainment at the Royal Hippodrome Theatre on Saturday – but the title Fit For A Queen 2015 was misleading.

Yes, it was ideal for a drag queen, but certainly not royalty because most of the jokes and lyrics were blue.

Ceri poked fun at several ladies in the audience, telling one she looked like a saint – a St Bernard! Others were interrogated and mocked unmercifully.

He was at his most outrageous as Dame Edna, complete with condescending smile.

There was plenty of glitz and glamour as Ceri became Zsa Zsa Gabor, Shirley Bassey, Cher and Tina Turner, but unflattering costumes for his send ups of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, Gladys Pugh from Hi-De-Hi and a stoned Amy Winehouse. Most of the vocals and appearances were superb.

But Ceri is not a quick-change artist. He tried to compensate by allowing us to see him behind a screen in silhouette donning costumes, wigs and accessories for each character, but this became tedious.

The last change saw Ceri as himself, giving a wonderful heart-felt rendition of My Way to mark his 30 years on the stage.
