THREE children were treated by paramedics after a fire broke out in a terrace house.

Three fire engines, two from Crawley and one from over the Sussex border in Reigate, were called to Ryelands in Crawley at about 11.40am on Easter Monday.

The fire in a first-floor bedroom was tackled by firefighters who took a hose reel into the house.

Another hose was directed into a window of the property from outside.

About a third of the first floor was ravaged by fire with the remainder smoke damaged.

The three children were treated for smoke inhalation and the cause is thought to have been accidental.
