My heart sinks at the imminent prospect of the i360 rising from the ground near the West Pier.
That this ghastly structure should be erected in a city famous for its Regency architecture is an act of municipal barbarism. More suited to Blackpool than Brighton, it will be a monument to a council of fools.
Apart from aesthetic objections, where is the market for this so-called ‘attraction’? I walk past the Wheel every day and can attest that, on weekdays, it mostly churns round with not a soul on board.
Fifty per cent of the view from the i360 will be of a barren seascape. The remainder will be no better than the views that can be obtained during a walk on the Downs.
May I suggest an alternative, much more appropriate, name for this upcoming blot on the seafront – the iSore.
