A freight train broke down leading to delays on the rail network this morning.
The locomotive came to a halt between Yapton and Barnham at 5.30am, blocking the line.
A rescue engine was sent along and Network Rail had to turn the power off briefly to allow train crews to couple up the carriages.
The train was on the move at 8am and passenger trains are running again but with delays between Chichester, Worthing, Horsham and London.
A Network Rail spokesman said: "We apologise for the disruption."
