Your article "Fast track for tube buses" (The Argus, March 19) highlighted the depths to which the Brighton and Hove Bus and Coach Company has now sunk in its neglect of commuters in the Rottingdean/Saltdean/Peacehaven area.

How many more times do us longsuffering commuters have to tell the bus company that what are needed are express buses from the outskirts of Brighton and Hove to the main railway stations?

Forget spending millions on special stations and roads, all you need are buses which, er, don't stop.

As a commuter to London from Saltdean, I have to allow up to an hour each morning to reach Brighton Station because the bus stops at every stop to allow one person to get on or off, then promptly empties at the station. The journey back is even worse.

As someone who has travelled the world, I can assure you Brighton is unique in not having express buses to its major stations. Many cities provide such a service on a fraction of the investment suggested by your article by having buses which stop infrequently.

Brighton Station offers heavily subsidised parking to season ticket holders, so there is always the threat of extra congestion if the bus companies fail to offer a service rivalling the car.

As an environmentally minded person, I strongly resist this temptation but my patience is limited.

If the bus company ran rush-hour number 27, 12 or 14 buses which ran express to the station from Rottingdean, it would go a long way towards relieving congestion.

So come on the bus company, get your act together. Otherwise us commuters will give up and go back to driving to the station.
