There have been a lot of letters in The Argus recently praising the Labour councillors and current MPs.

I have to say we have found both our outgoing MP, Mike Weatherley, and ward councillor Gary Pelzer Dunn extremely efficient, friendly and helpful.

It seems that when castigating the current government, it is conveniently forgotten that in five short years they have made quite some progress in dragging this country out of a desperately huge black hole, which the previous Labour administration largely caused and presided over.

How Tony Blair now has the nerve to stand up and prate in favour of E. Miliband I will never know.

Independent bodies confirm we have now some of the lowest unemployment for ages, and one of the strongest growing economies in Europe and beyond. This has not come about by accident.

It should also be stressed that the mainly Tory government has achieved these improvements with the dead weight of the Lib Dems around their necks – or perhaps more like a ball and chain around their ankles.

It is very easy for people to decide that they will vote how they and their families have always voted, ignoring the fact that what was good for their grandfathers is not necessarily good today.

Perhaps the most important thing is who will be prime minister? Well, I have voted both Labour (years ago) and Tory so have no particular bias. But when I look at the current candidates, and imagine this country being run by the Two Eds, probably in thrall to Nicola Sturgeon and Co., I start to wonder if I can escape to Florida... or Mars... or anywhere.
