Myself, my family and many of my friends have lived in Brighton and Hove all our lives.

We have seen many changes, some good and some not so good. We have on many occasions commented, "however did they get permission to build that?"

It took years to decide on the bypass and years to decide on the marina - just two of our city's projects.

Because of the controversy over these developments, precious time was wasted before we saw the benefits.

But now we could not live without them. They have become part of our city's landscape.

The King Alfred area is among the gloomiest in Brighton and Hove - even the atmosphere changes there.

The unimaginatively designed, purpose-built flats, 17 in all, which stretch from the King Alfred to Hove Lagoon and beyond add nothing to the area's ambience.

It is very gloomy.

The wonderful, colourful, futuristic Frank Gehry King Alfred design will inject much-needed new life and energy into the area.

It will rise like a proud phoenix and our city's architecture will become on a par with Sydney, Bilbao, Barcelona, Prague, New York and many other cities.

It is exciting and exhilarating to be on the verge of something so phenomenal.

We must appreciate Frank Gehry has given us the privilege of his incomparable genius. To turn our backs on such a gift would be complete madness.

We must all do everything we can to make the new King Alfred project happen as soon as possible.
