The heat was on for intrepid fundraisers as they took on a fire walk for charity.

More than 30 people took it in turns to walk across a 10 metre bed of 1,000F coals at Brighton Marina to help raise vital funds for the learning disability charity Mencap.

The money raised will go to the charity’s Young Ambassadors scheme, which gives people with learning disabilities the chance to develop new skills and confidence to get a job while helping to break down negative perceptions of learning disability.

A Mencap spokesman said: “We all face obstacles in life and the same is true for people with a learning disability.

“However with the right support anyone can overcome these obstacles and that’s exactly what we wanted to show from our firewalk.

“We’re delighted Land Securities who own the Brighton Marina have given us this opportunity and the funds raised will help more people with a learning disability have access to the same opportunities in life that others may take for granted.”

The event, which took place on Friday raised about £4,000 for the charity.
