This cycle parking shelter is being mistaken by short-sighted shoppers for a supermarket trolley bay.

Waitrose has been asked to take action by Lewes District Council after shoppers at their store started filling up the cycle parking shelter with abandoned shopping trolleys.

Council officers said they had recently put up signs indicating to shoppers not to use the store for their trolleys but their requests had been ignored and they have now asked the supermarket to return the cycle parking to its proper use.

Waitrose has said that it has asked its branch manager to look into the situation.

Local Conor Keegan, who took a picture of the cycle parking, said: “@LewesDC your new trolley park is a great success. Any chance of also installing cycle parking?”
