Police have closed a section of a busy Brighton road after a woman was slashed with a knife.
Officers were called to an incident in the street in Upper Lewes Road, Brighton, at around 4pm.
They found a woman had received a facial cut. The victim is currently being treated for the injury at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Police have taken possession of a knife found nearby.
A force spokesman said: "A man was arrested nearby on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries.
"It is believe that the couple are known to each other."
A section of Upper Lewes Road has been closed while the scene is examined.
