The cause of yesterday's derailed train at Brighton station "appears" to be driver error, the train operating company has said.
Southern told The Argus that the incident, which lead to the complete closure of all lines out of Brighton station yesterday afternoon for more than two hours, appears at this stage due to driver error.
Thousands of commuters and passengers were delayed on the hottest day of the year so far.
And the disruption has continued today as the derailed locomotive was only removed from the line shortly before midday.
Train services were unable to run between Brighton and Preston Park until at midday. A shuttle bus service operated between the two stations.
