It would be safe to say that the crew of the West Sussex fire and rescue service technical rescue unit are one of the busiest in the country.
With at least one animal rescue a week, the crew hadn't been back for long at their Horley base from another horse rescue before they were called out to rescue Biggles, who had got stuck in a ditch near Warninglid Lane in Plummers Plain.
Using a crane, a sedated Biggles - a 15-hand cob - undertook his very own adventurous 'flight' to safety in a 90-minute rescue operation.
Watch commander St. John Stanley said: "He was good as gold really. Once we had released him he took a mouthful of grass and was then led back to the stable."
