A DEDICATED Albion fan who died from a brain tumour earlier this year is in the running to be named supporter of the year.

Seagulls’ supporter Sarah Watts, who has been named Capital One Supporter of the Year for the Championship, is one of two Sussex fans in the running for the award which is announced on Sunday.

Crawley Town’s Tracey Cole, who helps to arrange travel to away matches for the Crawley Town Supporters Alliance, has won the award for the division below.

The pair will go up against League Two winner Gregg Hill of Exeter City for the overall title at a ceremony at The Brewery, London, on Sunday.

Ms Watts, who died in January, has been shortlisted for her relentless campaigning against homophobia with the Brighton and Hove Supporters’ Club and the Gay Football Supporters’ Network.

She would follow in the footsteps of fellow Albion fan Paul Samrah, who collected the award in 2008, if she was to be named overall winner this weekend.

Drew Barrand, marketing director of The Football League, said: “The Football League Awards 2015 provides not just the opportunity to recognise star performances, both on and off the pitch over the last year, but also the chance to celebrate the last 10 years of the event.

“We wish all those nominated the best of luck and look forward to a fantastic evening on Sunday.”
