A council has been given the green light to spend £1.15 million on outside consultants.

West Sussex County Council's Conservative cabinet's plan to bring in consultant to examine the authority's development and organisational structure in an attempt to save £15 million per year has been approved.

The Policy and Resources Select Committee, a financial watchdog group made up of members from all three political parties, gave the council the go ahead.

Commitee chairman, Clem Stevens, said: "Committee members were satisfied the use of consultants in this case represented good value for money."

The Argus reported last week how Labour and Liberal Democrat councillors opposed appointing consultants because they thought the work should be done in house.
