AN investigation has been launched after a lorry driver was caught overtaking a car and going the wrong way roundabout.

Sussex Police has confirmed it's roads policing unit is investigating video which was captured on a dashboard camera of the incident in Turners Hill.

The footage was captured on Wednesday at 2.45pm on the B2028 Selsfield Road southbound.

The lorry belongs to Matthews (Sussex) Ltd – a Three Bridges based firm specialising in demolition and earthworks.

Transport manager Simon Dyer said: “Please be assured that as a company Matthews (Sussex) Ltd is appalled by the actions of one of our drivers as shown by the video.

"We are totally in agreement that the video highlights some seriously dangerous driving through Turners Hill. This will not be tolerated in any way nor explained with any excuse.

“This matter was bought to our attention at around 7pm last night and by 7am this morning, after investigating the incident along with managing director Mark Matthews, the drivers employment was terminated with immediate effect.

"We would hope that by us acting in this timeframe, it highlights just how serious we are taking this matter.

“Matthews (Sussex) Ltd as a company also fully supports any action that the police or relevant authorities may want to take after investigating the incident and will comply with any requests for the driver's details.”

Sussex Police confirmed that its officers were now investigating.
