A wannabe musician is enjoying a taste of stardom after being selected ahead of thousands for a reality TV show.

Abi Ryan is hoping her blend of pop and R and B will shine through in Channel Four's reality programme, Musicool.

The 20-year-old was selected with nine other unsigned singers after a gruelling audition process.

Music studios across the country sent demo tapes of unsigned acts to Channel Four and the best were called in for an audition.

The group are being trained for ten weeks by choreographers and vocal coaches to appear in a musical which will be staged in the West End this summer.

Miss Ryan left her home in Chartwell Close, Seaford, at the beginning of March to live with the group in a house in Camden, London.

Viewers have been watching their progress, catfights and love stories evolve for the past month.

She said: "I always felt destined to become a singer.

"From a young age I realised singing was my passion.

"I feel lucky to be on the show, especially because the auditions were so difficult.

"It has been a fantastic experience so far and it is only going to get better.

"I'm getting a great education here and I hope it is the start of big things to come."

Miss Ryan left Seaford Head Community College after taking her GCSEs to follow her celebrity dream.

She began tap dancing and ballet at four years old, starred as Tallulah in Bugsy Malone in a school production aged 11 and joined Seaford Little Theatre a year later.

In the past three years she has supported Lamar and the Cheeky Girls at Bowood House, former Atomic Kitten Natasha Hamilton at Rockingham Race Track, and Irish superstar Ronan Keating at Ashton Gate, the home of Bristol City FC.

She recorded her first music video for her track, You Know I Like That, at Rockingham Race Track in July 2005.

After flirting with fame, Miss Ryan has no plans to go back to her former job as a care worker at a residential home.

She said: "Whenever I have tried to hold on to other jobs I have never lasted very long.

"Singing is the only thing that keeps me going and the one thing I'm good at."

Miss Ryan and the other wannabes are put through their paces by choreographer Sean Cheesman, who has worked with Michael Jackson and Britney Spears, musical director Fiona Laird, from the National Theatre, and West End producer Mike Dixon.

The group will stage a contemporary musical by Kwame Kwei Amah on May 6.

The name of the stage show has not yet been decided.

Musicool is screened during the T4 programme on Sundays at 12.45pm.
