TODAY is your last chance to put someone forward for the Youth in Action Education Awards.

The awards aim to celebrate everything that is great about schools in Sussex and the closing date for nominations is midnight tonight.

Now in its second year, the Youth in Action Education Awards have gone from strength to strength and editor of The Argus Mike Gilson is keen to see the unsung heroes in the county recognised.

He said: “There is so much unseen work done behind the scenes in our schools that goes un-noticed, and it’s our job to make sure they are celebrated.

“Year-on-year students churn out amazing results academically and excel on the stage and playing fields.

“So they need they need recognition for that, but so too do the people who work so hard to get these youngsters to a position to achieve.

“The teachers, assistants, technicians, coaches, support staff – anyone who has had a hand in the positive outcomes of our schools.”

This year the awards are on June 14, at the home of Sussex County Cricket Club in Hove.

There are 15 awards up for grabs this year.

They are: Pupil of the Year, Teacher of the Year, Headteacher of the Year, School of the Year, Staff Member of the Year, Sportsperson of the Year, Musical Achievement of the Year, Against All Odds Award, STEM Teacher of the Year, Academic Achievement of the Year, Excursion of the Year, Most Improved School of the Year, Community School of the Year, Charity Achievement of the Year and the Outstanding Contribution to Education in Sussex (STAR) Award.

The Argus’ managing director Dawn Sweeney said: “Last year was an amazing success and it was so good to see so many people on stage getting the plaudits they so richly deserved.

“In 2015 we’re looking forward to a bigger and better event, so get nominating and good luck to everyone who is shortlisted.

“We’ll see you at The County Ground.”
