I am continually frustrated by the letters and articles published regarding the closing of local post offices (The Argus, March 20). While I can of course understand the people who continue to use them will suffer, I do not see what alternative there can be.

Can the Government be expected to continue to subsidise these post offices, which are losing such huge amounts of money every year?

If so, where within our budget do we take money from to pay for this? The NHS or schools? It is inevitable that if we want to continue subsidising post offices, the money must come from other areas.

I am sorry to those who will be without local post offices but I do not believe that warrants neglecting other areas in which money is needed.

I agree this Government has made many mistakes during its time. However, the Government cannot be blamed for the reduction in use of the post offices, as online services and other delivery competitors are equally responsible.

I believe losing smaller post offices is an evolutionary matter which is inevitable as the country and world continues to modernise.
