AN EMMERDALE star will host this year’s LGBT equality walk as hundreds of people take to the streets to celebrate diversity and identity.

Alicya Eyo, who plays Ruby Haswell on the hit ITV soap, will be one of the hosts for walk run by LGBT charity Stonewall tomorrow. Ms Eyo, also known for starring in prison drama Bad Girls, is a strong supporter of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans rights and plays the lesbian partner of character Ali Spencer on Emmerdale. She said: “‘I’ve always been a big supporter of Stonewall and the important work that they do, and I'm really very proud to have become more involved with their work over the last year.

“It’s vital that we continue to support Stonewall’s work helping to improve the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people in Britain and overseas as there is still a way to go in order to challenge and erase inequalities.”

Stand up comedian Bethany Black, best known as Helen Brears from Channel 4 show Cucumber, is also a host for the walk.

She said: “I’m thrilled to be hosting Stonewall’s Equality Walk this year and look forward to meeting everyone on the day.

“Let’s keep our fingers crossed for beautiful Brighton sunshine and help raise vital funds to improve the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people.”

The equality walk takes place tomorrow and kicks off from 12pm at the Pavilion Gardens and everyone is invited to take part.

Britain’s Got Talent’s London Gay Big Band will be performing at the event along with the nine-woman, Hawaiian-shirt sporting ukulele band Qukulele.

For families there will be face painting, garden gnomes and post-walk massages.

Two of the charity’s school champions will also have stalls where they will be bulb-planting and badge making.

To register for the walk go to www.equalitywalk.org.uk or sign up on the day.
