Network Rail workers have voted 4-1 to go on strike across UK in a row over pay.

Around 16,000 RMT union members have been embroiled in a row with the company after rejecting a four-year pay offer.

The deal would have seen a one-off £500 bonus payment but no pay rise given to union members, and salaries frozen at inflation until 2019.

But Network Rail staff have been angered at the freeze when senior directors of the company last year received total pay packages of nearly £1 million each - increasing their remuneration packages on the previous year.

The results of the ballot were released this morning (Tuesday).

It is expected that disruption from any possible strike would affect services up and down the country, including in Sussex.

News of industrial action follows an Argus story last week on how train drivers of Southern Rail and Gatwick Express services were also being balloted in a row over pay conditions.

The result of their ballot with the ASLEF union is due to be announced on Friday.
