Brighton police station in John Street has been temporarily closed following an electrical fault..
Members of the public are being directed to the police office at Hove Town Hall or to Crowhurst Road police station in Hollingbury, where a front office has been opened.
Those not needing to go to a station or who have an appointment are asked to contact the relevant person, call 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
Other contact information is also available on the force website. Neither emergency or non-emergency call taking are affected and anyone with an emergency should still dial 999.
Chief Superintendent Nev Kemp, Brighton and Hove divisional commander, said: "This is challenging for officers and staff because the building will be out of use for a while, but we have contingency plans and other than the closure of the front office, the public should not notice a change in service.
"Operational officers will be relocated within the city and will carry out their normal duties while every effort is made to repair the problem, hopefully by tomorrow."
