A good definition of an intimate gig could be one where you bump into the band's frontman in the toilets before they go onstage.

The Bees have long passed the stage of sharing their facilities with the great unwashed but as the six-piece shambled onstage it was clear they were made for this kind of small gig.

With their largely longhaired and scruffilybearded look, the band could easily have been part of the audience.

As they swapped instruments and took the opportunity to enjoy a good old-fashioned wig-out mid-song, they were certainly enjoying the intimate experience as part of promoting new album Octopus.

New songs Listening Man and Better Days showed a slicker side of the band but the ramshackle edge that made last album Free The Bees special was still present in the Chas and Dave-alike Who Cares What the Question Is and the storming encore Got To Let Go.
