SUSSEX beaches have been benefiting from springtime spruce-ups thanks to wildlife charity supporters.
An army of environmentally conscious volunteers have taken to six local beaches as part of the Marine Conservation Society’s big beach clean-up programme.
The clean-up kicked off on Monday last week at the beach near the Old Fort in Shoreham.
Worthing beach was next in line for a clean on Saturday, just behind the Spashpoint Leisure Centre, while Hove beach, behind the King Alfred Leisure Centre, was cleaned on the same day. Other beaches to benefit from a clean-up include Bognor and Eastbourne.
A spokesman from the Marine Conservation Society said: “Marine litter is a problem that we can all play a part in solving, and what better way to start than with a day at the beach. So much more than just picking litter, volunteers have been contributing to a national survey, and meeting others from their community who want to protect the local environment.”
