A woman who died after being attacked in the street has been named.

Emma Crowhurst, 36, of Albion Road, Eastbourne, was found on the pavement in Chawbrook Road, Eastbourne, just before 11pm on Sunday, April 26.

She sustained a head injury and was taken to Eastbourne District General Hospital before being transferred to a specialist head trauma unit in Haywards Heath.

She suffered a fractured skull and her condition was assessed as serious but not life threatening.

However her condition worsened on Monday, May 11, and she died later that evening.

Police enquiries were carried out and it is believed that she may have become involved in an altercation with an unknown man in the street where she was found.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Ashcroft of the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team, said: "This is a tragic incident. At first Emma appeared to be making progress but her condition suddenly worsened over last weekend.

"This appears to be an isolated incident and there is nothing to suggest that there is any risk to the local community.

"We would like to hear from anyone who was in the Dudley Road and Chawbrook Road area on the late evening of Sunday 26 April, and who saw anything suspicious, perhaps an argument, or a man walking away from the scene.
