BEST-SELLING crime writer Peter James hinted at plans to adapt his books for television at the launch of his latest novel.

More than 500 admirers turned up to the launch of Peter James’ You Are Dead at Brighton Racecourse on Thursday night.

The Sussex author’s new creation hit bookstores that day.

The writing wizard’s new masterpiece centres around Brighton woman Logan Sommerville who vanishes without trace from an underground car park.

A series of bodies are found across the city in the following days, sparking fears that Brighton has its first serial killer in more than 80 years.

Mr James told The Argus: “I’ve never written about serial killers before but I’ve always been interested in their characters.

“We can all understand a person who comes home one day and finds his best mate in bed with his girlfriend and loses it.

“But serial killers are fascinating because they actually get pleasure out of doing it.”

The international best-selling author, who has now penned more than 30 books, took around a year to complete his latest novel.

Next in the pipeline includes exciting plans for a potential Brighton-based TV series centred around his work.

Mr James said: “I can’t say too much as it’s not been announced but a TV series could come during 2016, which is very exciting.

“The big challenges of adapting books for the screen are budget constraints.

“When you’re writing books your only constraint is your imagination.

“But any TV series will keep Roy Grace’s character faithful to the book.”

It has been a busy few days for Sussex’s famed wordsmith following nine book-launch appearances since Tuesday.

But he can look forward to unwinding come July when he ties the knot with his partner.

He said: “I’m very much looking forward to it.”
