A GROUP of people were attacked in a public garden and now police are trying to piece together what happened.
The assault happened in Pavilion Gardens, Brighton, on Friday at about 10pm.
It is understood four people were assaulted by a group of men and women, who then turned on a woman who tried to intervene.
An eyewitness reported seeing punching, kicking, stamping and biting and told The Argus there was also racial abuse.
The Argus understands the attackers fled from the police as they approached the scene and that victims of the attack were taken to hospital.
A Sussex Police spokesman confirmed that officers attended a fight of some description in Pavilion Gardens at that time.
