MORE than 2,500 tonnes of concrete was poured over the weekend to create the foundation for the Brighton i360 viewing tower.
Some 200 lorry visits were made to the seafront site on Saturday.
The 162 metre high viewing attraction is being built on Brighton Beach by the creators of the London Eye.
Eleanor Harris, chief executive of Brighton i360, said: “This is the exciting moment we have all been waiting for – once the foundation is in place, we can start building the world’s first vertical cable car. The tower will start going up on 15th June.”
The steel cans which will make up the viewing tower will arrive in two barge shipments from the Netherlands directly onto the beach beside the site by the West Pier, the first due on June 11. The tower will be completed this summer and then open in summer 2016 to include a 400 seat restaurant, shop, children’s play zone, exhibition, tea rooms, and conference and event facilities.
