TRIBUTES have been paid to a man who died in a car crash.

Flowers, cards and teddy bears in memory of the 27-year-old have been placed at the junction of Offington Avenue and Offington Drive, Worthing, where the crash happened in the early hours of Saturday.

The man, named in the cards only as Sam and not yet publicly identified by police, was pronounced dead at the scene after being thrown from a van that lost control on a bend and slammed into a tree at around 12.50am.

Four other men who were in the van were treated at Worthing Hospital for cuts and bruises before being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A 31-year-old from Worthing has been bailed until July 3, while a 32-year-old from Goring and two 27-year-olds from Worthing have been bailed until August 4.

Nearby resident Rosemary Mitchell told The Argus on Sunday: "All I heard in the night was a noise, but we didn't know what it was and and I couldn't see where the accident was from where we are in the street."

Anyone who saw what happened or who noticed the van, a red Vauxhall Movano, being driven shortly before the crash, is asked to contact police.
